Food For Thought:

With our main storage item this week being soup, and it being the season to enjoy some particularly wonderful squashes, we thought it would be fun to include some great squash soup recipes.  My daughter once surprised me with a delicious helping of butternut squash soup that had carrots, onions and allspice in it and I loved it.  She didn't use a recipe - she just threw it all in a pot and cooked it all together and it was really good (remember your food storage carrots and onions from the cannery?).  Butternut is used frequently, but any of the golden-fleshed winter squashes will work, including pumpkin.  Recently I had the pleasure of being in Melody Drew's kitchen and savoring the delicious aroma of a huge batch of pumpkin soup.  She said it also had onions, celery, potatoes, cream and allspice (yum!).  So here are some links to a few for you to check out and/or come up with your own to warm your family's fall meals with:
